I really suck at this whole blogging thing, don't I? I mean, I barely post anything. Not to mention, I suck at writing. It's 90% videos and pictures. So I'm basically taking credit for the hard work that other people did. When I post a video, I'm saying "I like what THEY did". Not what I did.

I think I have permanent writer's block. Which is also known as laziness. Because anyone can write anything at anytime. I could easily write 1,000 words on the NCAA Basketball Tournament, but I would have to do actual research. I can't just rely on who won and lost off the top of my head. I would have to open another window, type in E-S-P-N-.-C-O-M and hit enter. WAY too much work. I'd rather not do that and post another Temper Trap song. Because those guys are talented.

I've also found a way to increase my laziness by incorporating a podcast into this already word-suffering blog. Speaking of which, Luigi and I will be recording Episode 2 of "Let It Marinate"* tomorrow night. We'll be introducing new segments such as "Why does Luigi's car smell?" or "How about this weather, huh?" So if you're suffering from insomnia, hit play and before you know it, you will no longer have that affliction. But seriously, we'll try to keep it light and interesting. Not to mention thought-provoking. Because as the great Karl Pilkington says, "if I got you thinking, I've done my job". And it couldn't be more true. I just hope to impart some of my wisdom (or lack thereof) on to you and you can pay it forward per se.

*I'm really considering changing the name of the podcast. It's totally nonsensical and devoid of any real thought. We really just went with the first quasi-catchphrase we accidentally uttered. I'll have a brainstorming session in my head as I doze off to come up with a new one. Maybe "Sean and Luigi" or "Luigi and Sean". How about "Sean with Luigi" or Luigi featuring Sean". Jesus, I have no imagination.

Please excuse the lack of posts today as you see, Luigi as well as myself just recorded our second podcast. And it's terrible. But not horrible, which it was last time. So yes, there's an improvement. We mumbled a lot less, we spoke in complete sentences and we were even partially coherent.

Currently, Luigi is trying to figure out how to post the podcast directly onto THIS site instead of onto my Tumblr, which nobody follows (not even me). He says it's easy. Which means he could do it now but he'd rather not do it ever.

Anyway, I'd like to talk about sports on this podcast but Luigi knows less than nothing about sports. Seriously. I could mention baseball off-the-cuff and he would completely go cross-eyed. We need some sort of special guest. Someone who could actually hold a intelligent conversation about March Madness or baseball in general. I'll look into it.

I'll be back with regular posts tomorrow and hopefully the podcast itself. Until next time.

Site News (Update)

Just a little housekeeping here, and some fun stuff.

First things first. Soon, if not right away, I'll be moving to Tumblr. I've been told by people in the know (my friend Luigi) that "it's the easiest way to blog" and that there is an internal follower system. So you'll be able to follow me easier. I'll still maintain my www.seanbfitzgerald.com URL, so you won't have to worry about adjusting your favorites (wink).

I've made adjustments like these in the past. For instance, I've gone from strictly a Wordpress blog, to something more my own. You may remember "People Will Come". Anyway, it's just a way to increase my reach and make it easier for me (I'm lazy, you see).

Also, Luigi and I will be recording a podcast this Friday. Why? Because we're bored and it's the winter. We'll be talking about anything and everything. Sports, technology, movies, television, and how exactly he got home drunk from the city by himself the other night. It's going to be great. So expect Episode 1 of our podcast to be up by Saturday. But with the way Luigi gets things accomplished, expect it to never be up and disregard this post. But I have my fingers crossed just in case.

I'll be back soon to post about something soon. Whatever that means.

UPDATE: Okay, so currently I have a "Tumblr" link. Here it is: Seanbfitzgerald.tumblr.com. But currently there is no content on it due to some problems converting the material. Don't worry, I got a guy working on it. And due to duplicate copyright penalties, I'm not able to post the same content here and there. So right now I'm just saving the URL and I am probably going to post my podcasts on there until everything is all fixed.

To answer the hundreds dozens two e-mails I got as to why I am not writing as much lately, the answer is simple. Complete and utter writer's block. Usually, I have an opinion on everything sports related. If Tiger Woods just missed a putt or Michael Vick released a new brand of dog food, I should be there to provide some sort of insight and opinion. Not lately. I'm blank.

My mind works with the seasons. Right now, we're in the dog days of summer, a sports purgatory, if you will. Baseball is dragging on, football training camps just started, and the biggest college sports-related news was SEC Media Day, which provided the greatest piece of non-news ever. I guess the 'ol noggin' (taps head) is on a mental vacation. Take right now for instance. I am struggling to form words and string sentences together to articulate to you that fact that I am unable to be witty nor creative in any capacity. That last sentence alone took way too much out of me.

I've been reading a lot lately about the histories of two of my favorite television shows: The Simpsons and Saturday Night Live. And a majority of the books I've read have outlined the sheer genius attributed to the writers. Their ability to sit down and write entire episodes or sketches without even lifting up the pen was astounding. Granted, the writers of SNL had a little substance called cocaine to coax them along the writing process.

One of my favorite Simpsons writers is a man by the name of John Swartzwelder. He is arguably the most prolific writer in Simpsons history and has over 60 episodes credited to him. What makes him most interesting is his reclusiveness. In 1994, Swartzwelder was granted a special dispensation and allowed to no longer attend rewrite sessions with the rest of the writing staff, instead being allowed to send his drafts in from home so other writers could revise them. This was a direct result of his avid smoking habit coming in conflict with a newly implemented policy banning smoking in the writer's room.

He rarely, if ever, makes public appearances and refused to participate in any of the DVD commentaries on the first eleven The Simpsons DVD sets.

I just find it fascinating that someone with an obvious talent for connecting with audiences on a comedic level (A level that is purely social, if not emotional, I believe), is essentially a recluse. Which is why I find my situation even more maddening. Right now, I'm finding it difficult attempting to write for a blog that probably read by nine people.

I'll snap out of it. Sooner or...whatever word comes next.

I’ll be back tomorrow

Now don't be alarmed, but for the next week, I will be on vacation. Where, you ask? At the Paradisus Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Have I earned a vacation? Absolutely not. But that's besides the point. The point is, is that I'm going and it should be fun.

Like most trips, the thing I am dreading the most is the flight. It's going to be four hours of turbulence, dips, dives, annoying passengers, and duty-free liquor. I plan on listening to my iPod, reading a book, and doing some crossword puzzles. I just went through three weeks of summer classes, so a four hour flight should be a piece of cake.

My main goal for this vacation is just to relax, eat some good food, and lay on the beach until I turn into a lobster. And since I'll be in the Dominican Republic, I have to do a few other things:

-Get a shipment of some of this "Boli" I've heard so much about.

-Discover a 15-year old pitching phenom and get 50% of his signing bonus.

-Play golf.

And by the way, there is supposed to be a guest blogger for the week, but I am not sure if he'll do it. He expressed interest in doing so, but he has a real job so it might get in the way. I guess I'll find out when I come back.

I know I've been fairly slow with the posts lately. That's because I have a summer class and my midterm is today. Why did I sign up for a summer class? Because I want to graduate a semester early. Why do I want to graduate a semester early?...I'll get back to you.

Next week, I have finals for the six of my classes. So until then, I will be studying or procrasinating and won't have that much time to write posts. So basically, I will be posting videos and links. Not much original material. My last final is on Thursday, so expect this site to be fully operational at that time.

Please don't mind the constant format adjustments. I am just waiting for some lazy kid to make me a new one. But until further notice, I'll be sticking with the classic format. Classy.
