Unbelievable

I know this is relatively old news, but I don't feel it's being talked about enough. Forget Tim Donaghy. Forget anything you've heard about rouge officials and point shaving. This could be the most unbelievable sports video I have ever seen. It's from the LSU-USC game with minutes left in the first half. Quarterback Garcia scrambles out of the pocket and...

It seems almost fake. It's like one of those Buffalo Wild Wings commercials where the officials affect the outcome of the game to make it last longer.

There should be no discussion in my mind that the referee did this on purpose. As Garcia scrambles out of the pocket, the referee seems to size him up like a linebacker would and throw a vicious shoulder into him. Not only does he do that, he stares at Garcia on the ground without a HINT of remorse. It's unfathomable. At no point did he attempt to avoid the quarterback.

This begs the question: What was his motivation? And if the answer is "money", God knows where the sport of college football is going. I'm hoping that this ref had some flashbacks of his ol' playing days and thought he still had shoulder pads and a helmet on. Because otherwise, he and the SEC will find themselves in a similar situation that the NBA was in.

I'm still stunned every time I watch it. I get confused, scared, amazed, hungry, horny, dumbfounded EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I'm still wondering why people aren't talking about it. They are passing it off as a mistake. Saying things like "Sign that ref up". NO, YOU IDIOTS! This could be a huge deal. Referees are supposed to be invisible on the field. Not trying to break the collarbones of freshman quarterbacks in SEC games.

Wow.
