That’s perfect irony! Elaine, that is interesting writing!

This weekend was probably the best sports weekend in a very long time. Certainly for the year. On Saturday, there were still two playoff spots up for grab. The AL Central had done a complete 180 due to the fact that the Twins sent the White Sox to their room. And even after this weekend, there is still one more game to be played. White Sox are home for Detroit at 2:05ET on ESPN2. The Sox believed that game wouldn't be necessary a couple weeks ago. Not so fast. Chicago needs to win this game against Detroit to force a 1 game playoff against the Twins on Tuesday (also in Chicago).

The Universal Symbol for Choking.

The Universal Symbol for Choking.

This is something you see, ummm, maybe never. Choking away significant division and playoff spot leads in back-to-back Septembers. And yet we all witnessed that unintentional comedy that are the New York Mets. They showed ZERO fire against the Marlins, a team who had eliminated them from playoff contention just one year ago. The fans were looking for SOMETHING to cheer for that entire game. Oh yeah, there was that Beltran homerun in the 6th, but that is where the Mets thought it fitting to stop. What a way to end the Shea Stadium era. With ineptitude. Seems fitting. But with a performance like that, they clearly didn't deserve to be in the playoffs. That would be a disgrace to teams that made it. Speaking of which...

CC Sabathia showed every American League team looking for an ace, why he should be paid with big bags that have dollar signs on them. For the third time in as many starts, Sabathia pitched on three days rest and carried the Brewers into the playoffs. Ryan Braun showed for the nth time that he is going to be a perennial MVP candidate by blasting a 2-out, 2 run homerun in the bottom of the 8th to put Milwaukee ahead. Personally, I dont think they'll go far. Sheets is done for the year (bye bye money). But who knows, the Rockies won 47 games in a row last year to make it to the World Series last season.
